Kendra Went to School Today

Wouldn’t it be cool if…education was never out of reach for any child?

For generations, children living in the small Guatemalan village of El Astillero faced a grueling three-hour daily walk to school—if they could attend at all. But today, students like Kendra are stepping into their very own classrooms for the first time)

This incredible milestone is the result of years of dedication, community collaboration, and the unwavering commitment of volunteers from around the world. Since 2022, numerous volunteer groups have traveled to Guatemala, united by a shared passion for making a difference and tackling educational accessibility head-on. Working side by side with Kendra and her neighbors, volunteer groups helped lay the foundation—literally and figuratively—for a future where every child in El Astillero has the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream big!

With the completion of Phase 1, the village now has an elementary school in the heart of their community, eliminating the need for children to endure exhausting daily commutes. This year, we look forward to Phase 2—providing essential resources to equip teachers and students for success.

The 2022-2024 Community Development Council and the El Astillero Community extend our thanks to Dream Volunteers and everyone who made the construction of this school possible. Your support is providing a better education for the children of El Astillero.”
—Town Council President, Hector Geovani Chavac

This school is more than a building—it’s a beacon of hope, a symbol of what’s possible when communities and volunteers come together. Thanks to our network of our supporters, Kendra went to school today. And tomorrow, and every school day after, she’ll step into her classroom ready to learn, grow, and dream bigger than ever.

Thank you for being a part of their journey!
