Helida’s journey with Dream Volunteers began in 2014 when she approached us with a determination to stay in school despite limited resources. Although our scholarships for the year had already been distributed, her quiet confidence and unwavering resolve compelled us to make an exception. Offering her an academic scholarship was just the beginning of what has become a privilege to witness her extraordinary growth and achievements.
From that pivotal moment, Helida’s dedication and talent became evident. She consistently earned the highest grades among the 300 students at her school, a testament to her hard work and perseverance. Her exceptional accomplishments culminated in her selection as the flag bearer for the Antigua Independence Day Parade, a role akin to being named valedictorian, showcasing her leadership and academic excellence.

Yet, Helida’s story extends far beyond personal triumphs. She has become a guiding light and a source of inspiration for young girls within our community. As a leader in our young women’s empowerment program, Helida mentors and uplifts the next generation, sharing her experiences and offering support.
After high school, we were honored to continue supporting Helida with a college scholarship. While studying audits and accounting, she also worked as an office assistant, helping to guide and nurture the next cohort of Young Dreamers. Today, Helida holds a well-paying office job and has become the primary support for her family, moving them out and ultimately saving them from a dangerous situation. Her remarkable journey of resilience and achievement continues to inspire us, and we are proud to stand beside her as she creates a brighter future for herself and those around her.

SERVICE TRAVEL
Give your teenager new educational experiences while exploring the world. Service-learning and cultural immersion are part of every trip. Your teen will quickly learn to improvise and gain confidence in their ability to communicate regardless of their language skills. In addition, our pre-written, core curriculum is rooted in global citizenship competencies and focuses on issues like climate change and sustainability, education, human rights, and social justice. Your teenager will serve, interact, and exchange while expanding their perspectives and their contextual references.
GAP YEAR PROGRAM
Have your teen join us for one semester or two. Visit two countries or four. This once-in-a-lifetime experience will include three key components: Service, Cultural Immersion and Adventure Travel.
